William J. Mauzy specializes in criminal defense. Having successfully tried over 100 cases in state and federal court, he has been included in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Mauzy is certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a Criminal Trial Specialist. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He has been named a Top Ten Lawyer by Minnesota Law & Politics and that publication each year has named him a Super Lawyer. He is a member of a small panel of lawyers that represent police officers for the Minnesota Police & Peace Officers Association.

Effectively representing individuals and corporations in all criminal matters, Mauzy has won acquittals in a wide variety of cases, including securities, banking, mail fraud, bid rigging, anti-trust, ERISA fraud, assault, bribery and murder—including the first acquittal using the battered woman’s syndrome defense.

In one of his many white collar cases, he became the first attorney in Minnesota to try a case against the Office of Independent Counsel. Mauzy’s client, an insurance company CEO, was acquitted of all charges after a lengthy federal trial in Washington, D.C.

Mauzy is the author of numerous published articles and frequently lectures at seminars on criminal law.
